Allergy skin testing is the most accurate, efficient and timely method of diagnosing allergies. We have your results in 45 minutes or less!
The evaluation includes the most common allergens in our area of Texas:
There are two parts to the testing:
The percutaneous (or “prick”) tests: We use sterile, plastic, disposable devices called Multi-Tests – each with eight “prickers” on them. A drop of liquid extract from each allergen is placed on a corresponding pricker, and then the Multi-Test is lightly pushed onto the skin of the upper back area. We wait 15 minutes, at which time the results are reviewed. Any red area appearing as a small hive is interpreted as positive.
The intradermals: This testing immediately follows the percutaneous testing. Performed on adults and older children, but usually not on younger children. Tiny amounts of the allergens are injected just under the skin of the upper, outer arms. (They feel like little ant bites.) Again, we wait 15 minutes and interpret them in the same manner. When completed, the tests are wiped off and normal daily activities may be resumed.
The findings are reviewed with you, and appropriate choices and recommendations follow. A copy of the testing will be provided.
